While this story isn’t specifically related to medical tourism, we felt that because it relates to such a huge international population that it was worth mentioning. Besides, in addition to all things connected to the medical tourism industry, we also want to explore various health issues of the day. Fortunately, this recent discovery could be deemed a "non-health" issue

.

For almost as long as cell phones have been around, there has existed a worry that frequent, long-time use of cell phones, may contribute to a user's chance of getting cancer. Granted, most cell phone users didn't pay much attention to the theory, as anyone can tell by simply walking down a crowded street and counting the number of people chatting away.

Yet for those who may have feared that there is a connection between cell phone use and cancer, you can breathe easy. (No doubt the billion dollar wireless industry can breathe easy, too.)

The study, which appeared today in the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute," looked at a group of 420,085 Danes, all of whom began subscribing to cellular phone service between 1982 and 1995. The Researchers obtained access to cell phone subscription data, then used the names and addresses of the subscribers to find out which of them later got cancer.

In all, 14,249 cancers appeared in the research group, which is fewer than the 15,001 cases expected among the general population. However, while optimistic about the results, the study's authors were quick to note that ongoing research is needed to make sure the results stay consistent for those who have used a cell phone for more than 10 years.

"The Journal of the National Cancer Institute" publishes peer-reviewed original research from around the world and is widely recognized as the most accurate and authoritative source for news and information from the fields of cancer research and treatment.
Certainly, the results of the test, even if preliminary, are good news for the millions of cell phone users throughout the world.

People depend on cell phones, and the mobile communication they offer, like never before; they have become intertwined with our daily personal and business lives.  One has to wonder that, had the results of the test proven negative, what difference it would have made anyway.
